Pravas Mondal, the initial suspect arrested in the minor girl’s death case in Baruipur, West Bengal, was fatally shot in a police encounter while attempting to flee after seizing a police rifle. Mondal, taken to the crime scene for reconstruction, allegedly grabbed a service rifle from an escorting officer and tried to escape. Despite being chased by police, he fired shots at them with the stolen rifle, leading to his own shooting.
The accused, sustaining bullet wounds, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The incident stemmed from the discovery of the 12-year-old girl’s body in a pond in Baruipur, sparking outrage and demands for justice in the community. Following Mondal’s arrest, two more suspects, Dibakar Sarkar and Ananda Sardar, were apprehended, with Sardar identified as the primary suspect and alleged mastermind behind the heinous crime.
Locals reported seeing the victim with the accused before her disappearance, leading to Mondal’s arrest based on CCTV footage placing him with the minor. Despite his uncooperative behavior during interrogation, Mondal was taken to the crime scene for further investigation early Wednesday. In an attempt to escape, he seized a police rifle and fired at officers, prompting a fatal police response.
