In a significant move towards gender inclusion in the armed forces, the first group of women cadets trained at the National Defence Academy (NDA) has been commissioned as officers. These 17 women, part of the 148th Course at NDA, have completed their training and are now taking up leadership roles to serve the nation. The Indian Army welcomed nine of these officers at the Passing Out Parade of the 158th Regular Course at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, on June 13, 2026, in a ceremony reviewed by the President of India.
In a similar vein, three officers were commissioned in the Indian Navy at the Spring Term 2026 Passing Out Parade at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, on May 28, 2026. Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena oversaw the ceremony, marking a momentous occasion for gender diversity in the Navy. Additionally, five officers joined the Indian Air Force during the Combined Graduation Parade of the 217th Course at the Air Force Academy (AFA), Dundigal, Hyderabad, on June 13, 2026, with the ceremony reviewed by the Raksha Mantri.
The commissioning of these women officers signifies a significant milestone in the evolution of the Indian Defence Forces, emphasizing the country’s commitment to merit, discipline, and excellence regardless of gender.
