The inaugural meeting of the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led West Bengal cabinet, under the leadership of the ninth Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, is scheduled to take place at the current state secretariat in Nabanna, Howrah district, on Monday. While the BJP had initially planned for its ministers to work from the Writers’ Buildings in Kolkata, ongoing renovations have led the new cabinet, including the Chief Minister, to operate from Nabanna.
Nabanna, originally intended as a garments hub during the Left Front regime, became the state secretariat in 2013 following a decision by Mamata Banerjee. The BJP’s administration now aims to relocate the state secretariat back to the historic Writers’ Building, which housed previous Chief Ministers of West Bengal.
Chief Minister Adhikari’s day will commence with a meeting with the BJP’s state president and Rajya Sabha member, Samik Bhattacharya, followed by the first cabinet meeting to finalize additional cabinet members and portfolio distribution. Subsequently, he is set to lead three significant administrative meetings, including sessions with state bureaucrats, District Magistrates, and top police officials.
Adhikari has expressed his intent to govern through a “collective leadership” approach, differing from the leadership style of his predecessor, Mamata Banerjee.
