In a significant move to boost agricultural exports from Jharkhand, the first commercial consignment of fresh mangoes from the state was recently sent to the United Kingdom. The consignment, comprising 1.5 metric tonnes of fresh Amrapali mangoes, was sourced from Beura Farmer Producer Company Ltd., an all-women farmer producer company in Simdega district.
The export flag-off ceremony took place in Kolkata on June 4, 2026, marking a milestone for farmer producer groups in Jharkhand. The mangoes are being exported to London by M/s JGB Agrofresh Pvt. Ltd., in partnership with the farmer group facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
Following an export-oriented capacity building program conducted by APEDA on May 5, 2026, in Simdega district, farmer producer companies and organizations were trained on export requirements, quality standards, and global market opportunities. This training led to a direct collaboration between Beura Farmer Producer Company Ltd. and M/s JGB Agrofresh Pvt. Ltd. for the procurement of export-quality mangoes, integrating local farmers into the agricultural export value chain for the first time.
Officials highlighted that farmers associated with the producer company are already experiencing improved returns compared to domestic market prices. The initiative is expected to promote better farming practices in the region, focusing on enhanced post-harvest handling, quality assurance, and compliance with international standards. Jharkhand, known for its favorable agro-climatic conditions, is recognized as a promising region for horticulture cultivation, with the Amrapali mango variety gaining popularity in both domestic and international markets.
