The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has overseen the initial commercial export of Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Rewa Sundarja mangoes from Madhya Pradesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These mangoes are renowned for their exceptional sweetness, rich aroma, fiberless pulp, and distinct flavor, as highlighted by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
This milestone export involved a consignment of one metric tonne of GI-tagged Rewa Sundarja Mangoes, with the exporter paying growers a premium of Rs 40-50 per kilogram over local market rates. This move is expected to enhance farmer incomes and promote the adoption of export-grade production and post-harvest practices in the region.
The consignment, managed by M/s Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd, signifies the commencement of the international journey for Rewa Sundarja Mangoes, with prospects for regular exports in the upcoming seasons. The mangoes were sourced from Seondha Farmer Producer Company Limited and farmer Sonu Gupta of Govindgarh in Rewa district, processed, graded, and packed at a pack house in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, facilitated by APEDA.
After meeting export packaging and phytosanitary requirements, the consignment was transported to Varanasi Airport for air shipment to the UAE. Through collaborative efforts with various stakeholders, APEDA has played a crucial role in establishing export connections for this premium mango variety, aiming to create a distinct identity for region-specific agricultural products in international markets.
