The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the initial export of frozen French fries from Uttarakhand to Iraq. The shipment, totaling 24 metric tonnes, was sent by Virun Global Trade Private Limited from Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district to Iraq, as confirmed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This export marks a significant advancement in promoting value-added agricultural exports from Uttarakhand and enhancing India’s processed food export range.

The export is anticipated to create fresh international market opportunities for processors in Uttarakhand, while also bolstering the state’s involvement in India’s expanding processed food exports. The exporter is optimistic that the quality of the shipment will attract repeat orders, establishing enduring business relationships in overseas markets, thereby generating sustained export prospects for both the company and the region.

APEDA has been actively backing the exporter by participating in prominent international trade exhibitions like SIAL, Gulfood, IndusFood, and World Food India, which aids in broadening market reach and connecting with global buyers. India has been progressively solidifying its position as a processed agricultural products supplier in global markets, with processed vegetable exports reaching 726,874.70 metric tonnes valued at $932.25 million during 2025-26.

Value-added potato products contributed exports of 277,108.51 metric tonnes worth $289.40 million during the fiscal year, while processed fruits and vegetables collectively accounted for nearly 10% of APEDA’s scheduled exports. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev highlighted that logistics costs continue to impact export competitiveness from landlocked states like Uttarakhand. He mentioned that APEDA is collaborating closely with the Government of Uttarakhand to develop and execute the State Agri Export Policy, including transport assistance provisions to enhance export competitiveness and facilitate improved market access for exporters.
