The Department of Fisheries in Jharkhand has initiated several projects in the Garhwa region, sparking excitement among residents. This move, with five projects allocated to Garhwa, is anticipated to positively impact livelihoods and boost income for fish farmers. The projects aim to enhance the fisheries sector, a vital business in the area.
Nurul Hoda Ansari’s project in Pipra, Meral block, has received approval under the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) scheme, with an allocation of four crore rupees. The FIDF scheme focuses on developing fisheries infrastructure to increase fish production and achieve the 15 million tonnes target by 2020 set under the Blue Revolution.
Apart from Ansari’s project, four other schemes are in progress, including the installation of cages in the Annaraj Dam. The government’s efforts also extend to conserving and supporting endangered tribal communities in the region. Through initiatives like the RRF scheme, tribal families are being connected to fish farming to enhance self-reliance and income opportunities.
The District Fisheries Department is actively involved in implementing the RRF scheme, selecting rivers and streams with natural water flow for fish farming activities. The local villagers have expressed joy and optimism about these projects, believing that it will empower them economically and boost their incomes. Experts predict a promising future for the region, especially with the potential for increased fish output and progress in the fisheries sector.
