The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Odisha Sports and Youth Services Department will collaborate to host the Fit India Carnival–2026 in Puri district from March 15 to 17. This three-day event is part of the Fit India Mission initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. Preparations for the carnival were recently discussed in a meeting chaired by Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj at the SAI regional office in Kolkata.
The carnival aims to involve youth, women, senior citizens, National Cadet Corps volunteers, National Service Scheme members, self-help groups, and individuals from diverse communities across the state. Various fitness and recreational activities are planned, including yoga, walkathons, marathons, athletics, football, Zumba, aerobics, and volleyball sessions at the beach in Puri. Additionally, special zones for kids and women’s wellness, an AYUSH Wellness Centre, and group meditation sessions will be set up to promote physical and mental well-being.
Cultural and fitness-related programs will be held during evening sessions, featuring traditional art performances like Gotipua dance and Mallakhamb. The carnival will also include a fitness fashion walk, cultural displays, and an open mic session for participants to share their fitness journeys. Minister Suraj highlighted that this event, showcasing Odisha’s art and cultural heritage, is a first for the state and emphasized the importance of promoting fitness alongside cultural richness.
During his visit to Kolkata, Minister Suraj engaged with SAI officials to discuss enhancing sports infrastructure in Odisha and interacted with athletes at the regional office.
