Five individuals have been apprehended in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, as police discovered grenades, ammunition, and other incriminating items in their possession. The arrests took place in the Khanmoh area during a police check at Nard Sangri near Khanmoh. Among the items seized were two hand grenades, two magazines, rounds of ammunition, posters, and six mobile phones. Authorities have filed a case under relevant laws at Panthachowk police station, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with security forces, are intensifying operations against terrorists, their overground workers, and sympathizers. In addition to targeting terrorists, the security forces are also focusing on drug smugglers, peddlers, and individuals involved in hawala money rackets. It is suspected that funds generated through these illegal activities are channeled to sustain terrorism and drug addiction among the youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
Efforts are underway as part of the 100-day-long Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir campaign to combat drug abuse and trafficking. Stricter penalties have been announced for drug smugglers as part of this initiative. The revised strategy aims to dismantle the entire support network of terrorism in the region, encompassing measures to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, drug smuggling, and drone activities originating from across the Line of Control and the International Border, supported by Pakistan-backed terrorist groups.
Drones are being utilized to transport arms, ammunition, drugs, and cash to aid terrorism in the region. Jammu and Kashmir’s 740-km-long Line of Control is guarded by the Army, while the 240-km-long International Border is monitored by the Border Security Force. The Line of Control spans Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in the Valley, as well as parts of Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu districts. The International Border is located in Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts.
