Five candidates, including four from the Trinamool Congress and one from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have been elected unopposed to the five Rajya Sabha seats from West Bengal. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations passed without any applications, leading to their uncontested victory.
Babul Supriyo, a Trinamool Congress candidate and former Union Minister of State, expressed his focus on raising West Bengal-related issues in the Upper House of Parliament. Rajeev Kumar, another Trinamool Congress winner and former acting Director General of West Bengal Police, emphasized the honor and responsibility of his new role in the Rajya Sabha.
Koel Mallick, a popular Bengali actress and the third Trinamool Congress candidate elected, sought blessings to serve the people of West Bengal effectively. Meanwhile, Menaka Guruswamy, the fourth Trinamool Congress candidate and a prominent advocate in the queer movement, did not provide a comment on her election.
Rahul Sinha, the lone BJP candidate elected, expressed his happiness in transitioning from organizational politics to parliamentary politics for the first time. Sinha, a former national secretary and state president of the BJP in West Bengal, pledged to bring the same dedication and honesty to his new role in parliamentary politics.
