Five police officers lost their lives, and three others were seriously injured in a road accident in front of the Sadar Police Station in Jharsuguda district. The deceased officers were identified as Kashiram Bhoi, Niranjan Kujur, Debadatta Sa, Lingaraj Dhurua, and Bhaktabandhu Mirdha. The injured policemen, Dubaraj Mirig, Akash Naik, and Rajiv Bharsagar, are receiving treatment at the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital.
The accident occurred when a speeding trailer truck carrying iron rods collided head-on with a Bolero vehicle transporting police personnel. Local residents expressed concerns about the government and NHAI authorities’ alleged neglect in expanding the highway from two lanes to four lanes. They emphasized the long-standing demand for road expansion to enhance safety and prevent such tragic incidents.
Following the accident, the police initiated an investigation, detaining the driver and seizing the truck involved in the collision. The families of the deceased officers were left devastated by the loss of their loved ones, who were returning to duty after attending a marriage party. The injured officers’ condition is being closely monitored as they receive medical care.
