A tragic incident unfolded in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district as a five-year-old boy, his 11-year-old sister, and their 35-year-old aunt drowned in a stone crusher quarry. The children, accompanied by their mother, were at the quarry to bathe when the siblings ventured into deeper waters to retrieve a ball, leading to the fatal accident.
The victims were identified as Nikhra Pardi, Namrata Pardi, and Sairabai Pardi. The children, who did not know how to swim, got into trouble, prompting their aunt to jump in and attempt a rescue, resulting in all three drowning. The family, originally from Jammusar Kadaiya village, had moved to the area for work.
Biaora City Police Station SHO Shivraj Singh Chauhan confirmed the tragic deaths and mentioned that a case has been registered while an investigation is ongoing. The bodies were recovered during a rescue operation that involved police personnel and local residents, lasting nearly an hour before the bodies were retrieved from the water.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of abandoned mining sites in the region. Villagers alerted authorities, and the bodies were taken to the civil hospital in Biaora, where they were declared dead. Locals have criticized the lack of safety measures at the quarries, some of which are reportedly dangerously deep, posing risks to unsuspecting individuals.
