Flight operations in several parts of northern and eastern India, including Delhi, faced disruptions on Thursday as dense fog enveloped the region, significantly reducing visibility. This led to advisories being issued by airlines for passengers to stay informed and check for flight updates to avoid inconvenience. Delhi, starting the New Year under a thick blanket of fog, pollution, and cold weather, continued to experience “very poor” air quality conditions.
Dense fog, coupled with low temperatures, tightened its grip on the national capital, exacerbating the already poor environmental situation. The Central Pollution Control Board’s latest data revealed that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was at 372, indicating persistently high pollution levels throughout the city. Airlines like Air India and IndiGo issued warnings to passengers about potential flight disruptions due to low visibility conditions in parts of north India, including Delhi.
Air India’s ‘FogCare’ initiative was activated to provide advanced alerts to passengers regarding affected flights, offering options to reschedule or receive refunds at no extra cost. Passengers were advised to check the airline’s official website for the latest flight status and to allow extra travel time to the airport due to prevailing weather conditions. IndiGo also alerted passengers about weather-related disruptions in Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, and Guwahati, urging them to stay updated on flight details through official channels.
As fog persisted in parts of the Northeast, IndiGo cautioned passengers about potential delays at Guwahati airport due to slower aircraft movement. SpiceJet informed passengers about adverse weather conditions in Ayodhya and Dharamshala, warning of possible flight disruptions. Lucknow airport recorded low visibility early on Thursday, with forecasts predicting gradual improvement throughout the day.
