Thousands of people in 12 districts of Arunachal Pradesh are facing the impact of floods caused by continuous monsoon rains. Rescue efforts are ongoing as two individuals, including a minor, remain missing.
The floods have damaged around 20 houses and other structures in the Yazali circle of Keyi Panyor district. The disaster has also led to the destruction of roads, bridges, and homes, as well as loss of lives and disruption of surface connectivity in the affected areas. Authorities are still working to confirm the exact number of casualties.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu conducted a virtual review of the flood situation in the state, emphasizing the importance of relief, rescue operations, and restoration efforts. The India Meteorological Department has forecasted continued rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh until July 1, with potential risks of landslides, flash floods, and other weather-related hazards.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) swiftly restored the Kimin-Potin road within 36 hours after severe weather conditions caused extensive damage in Keyi Panyor and Papum Pare districts. The disruption in vehicular movement and connectivity to key locations prompted the deployment of an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter for relief operations.
