In Nagarkurnool district, 26 students at a tribal residential school fell ill after breakfast due to food poisoning. The students showed symptoms of diarrhoea and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Parents protested the lack of facilities as the students had to lie on the floor for treatment.
The affected students were initially taken to Mannanur Government Hospital but had to be shifted to Achampet Area Hospital due to a shortage of beds. Some students reported seeing insects in the breakfast they were served. This incident follows a recent food poisoning case at Kamareddy Gurukul School where 33 students were hospitalized.
These incidents raise concerns about the safety of food provided in residential schools. The National Human Rights Commission had previously directed the state government to investigate over 800 suspected food poisoning cases. NHRC noted 48 student deaths and 886 food poisoning incidents in gurukul schools in Telangana.
Students at Telangana University in Nizamabad district staged a protest over the lack of proper drinking water supply. They blocked an RTC bus to highlight their distress at the ongoing water crisis.
