Football fever in Assam sees the Chief Minister’s FIFA Fan Park project extending to Lakhimpur, following successful events in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat. The Lakhimpur Fan Park, organized by the district administration with support from local MLA Manab Deka, offers enthusiasts the chance to watch late-night World Cup matches on large screens, creating a stadium-like experience for thousands of fans.
This initiative is anticipated to attract young people, families, and football fans from the district, who traditionally stay awake through the night to catch the major football tournament despite the time gap. The expansion of the Fan Park to another district highlights the special cultural significance of football in the Northeast, where the sport enjoys a fervent following unmatched in many other parts of the country.
Addressing the event, Deka emphasized the deep-rooted love for football among the region’s residents. He noted that while cricket is a dominant force in India, football holds a special place in the hearts of Northeasterners. Deka highlighted how football transcends boundaries, languages, and cultures, uniting communities through a shared love for the game.
Deka explained that the CM FIFA Fan Park aims to provide fans with a communal World Cup experience in a festive setting closer to home, fostering a sense of community engagement. This initiative comes at a time when excitement around the tournament peaks as the World Cup progresses to the knockout stage, with fans eagerly anticipating high-stakes matches.
