Football fever has taken hold in Assam as the Chief Minister’s FIFA Fan Park initiative has become a popular attraction, bringing together thousands of football fans to watch FIFA World Cup matches on large screens. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the Fan Parks as evolving into vibrant football carnivals, where supporters from various cities gather to cheer for their favorite teams and enjoy the sporting spectacle. The Fan Parks, initially launched in Guwahati, have now expanded to districts like Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur, attracting enthusiastic participation from youngsters, families, and football enthusiasts.
Inviting football lovers to join the excitement, Chief Minister Sarma encouraged people to visit their nearest Fan Park, which will be open until 3:30 a.m. to accommodate late-night World Cup fixtures. These venues, equipped with large LED screens, seating arrangements, and festive decorations, have created a stadium-like atmosphere, enabling supporters to collectively savor the matches despite the late kick-off times. The Fan Parks have become communal spaces where fans from different nations come together to celebrate the sport, underscoring the Northeast’s status as a prominent football region in India.
The initiative has not only showcased Assam’s rich football culture but also brought fans together in large numbers, donning team jerseys, waving flags, and rejoicing at every goal with resounding cheers. As the FIFA World Cup approaches its climax, anticipation is at its peak as fans gear up for the remaining matches, including the final showdown. The state government anticipates that the Fan Parks will continue to attract large crowds for the concluding matches, offering football enthusiasts a chance to relish the World Cup fervor in a festive and secure community environment.
