A massive forest fire near the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district was swiftly contained by Army troops and the Indian Air Force. The IAF’s Mi-17V5 helicopters conducted aerial firefighting at 9,500 feet, dropping 12,000 liters of water to combat the blaze.
The Spear Corps of the Indian Army, in a joint effort with the IAF, successfully controlled the forest fire along the Lohit River’s western ridge. The operation faced challenges due to the rugged terrain and unpredictable wind conditions in the area.
Authorities emphasized the importance of such joint operations in protecting communities and the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. The armed forces’ preparedness and coordination were crucial in effectively responding to natural emergencies in remote regions.
The containment of the fire showcased the bravery and operational skills of the personnel involved, who worked under extreme conditions to safeguard lives, forests, and biodiversity. Forest fires have become a significant threat to Northeast India, with a recent study showing a rise in fire intensity in the region.
