Murari Babu, a former Administrative Officer of the Travancore Devaswom Board and the second accused in the Sabarimala gold scam, has died at a private hospital in Kochi while undergoing cancer treatment. He was being investigated for his involvement in the theft of gold-plated panels and sculptures from the Sabarimala temple.
Originally from Perunna in Changanassery, Murari Babu succumbed to cancer at Amrita Hospital. His funeral is scheduled to take place at his residence in Perunna at 3 pm on Saturday. The Special Investigation Team had been looking into the misappropriation of gold-plated panels removed from Sabarimala.
Having started his career as a constable in the police force in 1994, Murari Babu later joined the Travancore Devaswom Board in 1997. Despite starting in a low-level position, he amassed significant assets during his tenure, prompting allegations of corruption and irregularities. His death comes amidst ongoing investigations and legal proceedings related to the Sabarimala gold case.
