Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran, known for his cricket career, is currently fighting a severe immune disorder in a New Delhi hospital. The condition, known as Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), has placed him in the ICU due to its life-threatening nature. This disorder leads to hyper-inflammation and can harm various tissues in the body, including the bone marrow, liver, spleen, and lymph nodes.
Shapoor’s brother, Ghamai Zadran, expressed deep gratitude towards blood donors and supporters who have been aiding Shapoor during this challenging time. He particularly thanked everyone who participated in the blood donation campaign organized for Shapoor, including Afghan and Indian supporters who have shown care and compassion towards his brother. Ghamai also requested continued prayers for Shapoor’s recovery and assured that updates on any future blood platelet needs will be shared.
Ghamai Zadran took to Instagram to convey his appreciation, acknowledging the efforts of friends, family, and well-wishers who have stood by Shapoor. The cricketer’s health struggles began in October last year, leading to his decision to seek medical treatment in India. With the assistance of prominent figures like Rashid Khan and the Afghanistan Cricket Board chairman Mirwais Ashraf, Shapoor was able to swiftly access treatment in New Delhi.
Shapoor’s diagnosis of stage four HLH was confirmed through a bone marrow test in late March, prompting an urgent call for A-positive blood donors to aid in his treatment. Notable cricket personalities such as Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Asghar Afghan, Gulbadin Naib, and AM Ghazanfar have visited Shapoor during his hospitalization in New Delhi.
