Former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah has officially switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a significant move before the upcoming state elections. Borah made his transition to the BJP official during an event in Guwahati, attended by Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia and state minister Jayanta Malla Baruah.
At the induction ceremony, Borah criticized the Congress leadership, accusing the party of straying from its fundamental principles and undermining the country’s dignity. Expressing his deep-rooted association with the Congress, Borah stated that his decision to leave the party was the outcome of thorough contemplation, emphasizing that the Congress no longer resonates with the public’s aspirations and has veered off course from its core beliefs.
Welcoming Borah into the BJP, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia highlighted that Borah’s extensive political experience and organizational acumen would bolster the party’s structure in Assam. Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah echoed this sentiment, attributing Borah’s move to the increasing faith in the BJP’s policies and leadership, particularly lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s development-focused governance in Assam.
Borah’s defection is viewed as a notable political development in Assam, with the BJP solidifying its standing in the state while the Congress grapples with internal turmoil and leadership challenges.
