Former Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, congratulated Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma on the BJP’s victory in the Assembly elections. Saikia urged Sarma to address crucial matters such as implementing the Assam Accord and dealing with illegal infiltrators promptly.
In a letter to Sarma, Saikia emphasized the need for progress, sustainable development, and a peaceful environment under the new government’s leadership. He also highlighted unresolved issues that require immediate attention, including granting Scheduled Tribe status to indigenous communities and promoting communal harmony.
Saikia stressed the importance of restoring unity among different communities in Assam, especially after the divisive atmosphere during the election period. He called for collaborative efforts to ensure the state’s overall development and address sensitive issues effectively.
The Congress leader also raised concerns about the ongoing investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death and urged the government to support the family in expediting the probe. Additionally, Saikia proposed establishing an automobile manufacturing hub in Assam to boost employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
