The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed Marcus North, a former Australian cricketer, as the England Men’s National Selector. North joins the ECB after serving nearly eight years at Durham County Cricket Club, where he was the Director of Cricket. In his new role, he will oversee squad selection across various levels of English men’s cricket, from the national team to developmental squads.
As part of his responsibilities, North will be involved in monitoring domestic cricket during the county season, assisting in decisions related to central contracts, and contributing to long-term succession planning. Additionally, he will collaborate with the ECB’s science and medical departments to address player fitness, workload balance, and scheduling management.
Originally hailing from Western Australia, North represented Australia in Test matches and ODIs during his international career. Known for his left-handed batting, he also played for multiple English counties. At Durham, North played a pivotal role in the club’s growth both in terms of competitiveness and structure, earning recognition in the domestic cricket scene.
England Men’s Managing Director Rob Key expressed satisfaction with North’s appointment, citing his extensive knowledge of the domestic game, varied experience, and strong relationships within county cricket. Key highlighted North’s contributions to Durham and his international playing background as valuable assets for England Men’s cricket. In response, North expressed his excitement and honor at being chosen for the role, emphasizing his commitment to developing England Men’s teams and working closely with the county system to identify and nurture talent for international success.
