Pabitra Kar, a former BJP leader from Nandigram, has switched to the Trinamool Congress and secured a party ticket to challenge the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari. Kar, confident in Trinamool’s victory, anticipates winning the Nandigram constituency by a significant margin of 30,000 votes.
Kar, who joined the Trinamool Congress in the presence of the party’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, expressed his dissatisfaction with the BJP in West Bengal as the reason for his party switch. The move comes after the BJP announced Adhikari’s candidacy from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also contesting.
In response to Mamata Banerjee’s candidacy from Bhabanipur, setting up a rematch with Adhikari, the Trinamool Congress strategically fielded Kar against the BJP stalwart in Nandigram. This electoral maneuver aims to challenge Adhikari and secure a victory for the Trinamool Congress in the upcoming elections.
