Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has emphasized the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as a pivotal encounter among the initial 20 games. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the schedule for the tournament’s first phase, scheduled from March 28 to April 12. The tournament will kick off with defending champions RCB facing SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
“It is going to be a houseful, and you want to see these superstars. The quality of cricket that you are going to get in this match, in terms of bowling, batting and six-hitting ability, you won’t get to see a bigger match than this. And it is understandable too. Rohit Sharma, the way his form has been for the last two years, has been magnificent,” Pathan said on JioStar.
Expressing anticipation for Virat Kohli’s performance, Pathan highlighted the veteran’s consistent presence with RCB for 19 years. Pathan also mentioned players like Rajat Patidar, Jitesh Sharma, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, emphasizing the high-quality cricket expected at the Wankhede Stadium during this significant match.
Pathan also shared insights on Sanju Samson’s debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against his former team, Rajasthan Royals (RR). Samson’s move to CSK from RR, along with the trade of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR, is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the CSK squad. Pathan underlined Samson’s potential impact, given his familiarity with RR’s strategies and players, which could provide CSK with a competitive edge in the upcoming season.
