Former India cricketer and Trinamool Congress MLA Manoj Tiwary criticized the outgoing West Bengal government for using him and failing to fulfill promises. Tiwary, who served as the state’s sports minister, highlighted the challenges he faced during his tenure. In a video shared on social media, he expressed disappointment over the lack of support from the government.
Reflecting on his political journey, Tiwary explained his decision to enter politics to advocate for others facing similar challenges in sports. He specifically called out the Sports Minister for not providing him with meaningful responsibilities in the sports department. Tiwary felt sidelined and expressed regret over not being able to contribute effectively to the welfare of athletes in the state.
Accusing the government of exploiting his connections for personal gain, Tiwary mentioned an initiative involving Jamaican athlete Yohan Blake that was allegedly blocked due to financial reasons. Despite a substantial sports budget, Tiwary claimed that the government failed to support initiatives aimed at retaining talented sportspersons in West Bengal. He also criticized the Chief Minister for not addressing his concerns and accused the government of making empty promises.
Tiward further alleged mistreatment by the Sports Minister, citing instances of humiliation and exclusion from public events. He pointed out the mismanagement of a high-profile football event in Kolkata and emphasized the public’s growing dissatisfaction with the government. Tiwary’s revelations shed light on the challenges faced by sports personalities in the state and the need for genuine support from the authorities.
