Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda criticized the recent notification by the Centre that altered the eligibility criteria for top Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) positions reserved for Punjab and Haryana. Hooda expressed concern that the new decision allows members from any state to hold key positions, potentially undermining Haryana’s interests. He highlighted the historical rules that were in place to protect Haryana’s rights within the board, emphasizing the need to safeguard the state’s water allocation and employment opportunities.

Hooda pointed out the perceived neglect of Haryana’s concerns by the BJP government, particularly in light of issues like the SYL water dispute and recruitment within the BBMB. He criticized the state government’s silence on these matters, noting a lack of objection even when Haryana’s recruitment quota in the board was removed. Regarding the SYL canal matter, Hooda referenced a past Supreme Court ruling favoring Haryana and lamented the failure of both the state and central BJP governments to ensure Haryana’s water rights.
