Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Jai Ram Thakur, expressed concerns about the state government’s functioning, citing an atmosphere of instability and fear despite holding a clear majority in the Assembly. Thakur highlighted the internal turmoil and uncertainty within the Congress, indicating a crisis of trust within the government.
Thakur noted that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s decision not to field a candidate for the Rajya Sabha election provided a significant opportunity for the Congress. However, he criticized the confusion and internal contest witnessed within the Congress over the Rajya Sabha seat, exposing the party’s internal contradictions.
Several senior Congress leaders, including Anand Sharma, traveled to Delhi to present their claims for the Rajya Sabha seat, while others were assured by the Chief Minister that their names were under consideration. Thakur alleged that the Chief Minister misled his colleagues and associates, leading to resentment within the Congress.
Thakur further criticized the government, claiming that key decisions are made by a “circle of friends” rather than the formal Cabinet. He highlighted that important determinations are not taken in official Cabinet meetings but by a select group of associates who decide on beneficiaries and those sidelined.
