Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu expressed that blaming the batters for India’s recent T20I series loss to Ireland would be unjust. Rayudu highlighted the challenging conditions faced by the team in Ireland, emphasizing the upcoming series against England in the UK where conditions are expected to be more favorable for batting.
In the matches against Ireland, India’s top order struggled, especially against left-arm pacer Jai Moondra. Rayudu pointed out the stark difference between the pitches in Ireland and the batting-friendly tracks of the IPL. He mentioned the lack of preparation time for the Indian team to adjust to the varied conditions.
Rayudu also discussed the role of Washington Sundar in the T20I setup, emphasizing his bowling prowess over his batting skills. He suggested that Sundar could play a crucial role in the middle order but might not be suited as a finisher yet. Additionally, Rayudu supported the decision to keep young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi out of the playing eleven, stating that it would benefit his development in the long run.
Regarding skipper Shreyas Iyer’s performance, Rayudu expressed confidence in Iyer’s ability to excel in the upcoming T20Is against England. He praised Iyer’s simplicity in approach and predicted a positive transition for the team in the England series.
