Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth criticized the Mumbai Indians’ bowling performance following their loss to Punjab Kings. Srikkanth questioned the team’s decision to include Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur in the playing XI at the Wankhede Stadium. Despite posting 195 runs, MI’s bowling failed to contain PBKS, who comfortably chased the target in just 16.2 overs.

Srikkanth specifically highlighted the expensive spells of Chahar and Thakur, expressing disbelief at their performance. He pointed out that the duo conceded 87 runs in 5.3 overs, raising concerns about the team’s bowling strategy. The former chairman of selectors emphasized the importance of strong bowling options for a team to succeed in matches.

The Punjab Kings’ successful chase was led by Prabhsimran Singh’s explosive 80 off 39 balls and skipper Shreyas Iyer’s composed 66 off 35 deliveries. Srikkanth also mentioned the struggles of Jasprit Bumrah, who remained wicketless and conceded 41 runs in his four overs. He suggested that Bumrah needed a break after a demanding international schedule to regain form.

As MI faces scrutiny over team balance and workload management, Srikkanth criticized the overall performance of the bowling attack. He expressed disappointment in the team’s inability to apply sustained pressure on the opposition, leading to their defeat against PBKS. The former captain highlighted the need for strategic improvements as the tournament progresses.
