Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has raised concerns about Riyan Parag being appointed as the captain of Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming season. Srikkanth suggested that Parag, despite his inconsistent performance, is being favored by the franchise. He pointed out that the decision to make Parag the captain seemed surprising, especially with more experienced players available.
Srikkanth questioned why other potential leaders like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja were not considered for the captaincy, given Parag’s mixed track record. While acknowledging Parag’s past promising performances, Srikkanth highlighted his recent underwhelming season, where he led the team to only two wins in eight matches.
Parag, who took over the captaincy from Sanju Samson after a significant trade, has had notable achievements in the past, including scoring 393 runs with a high strike rate last season. However, concerns persist over his consistency, despite his overall contributions to the team’s performance.
Looking ahead to Rajasthan Royals’ upcoming season, Srikkanth expressed a cautious optimism about the team’s capabilities. He recognized their potential to surprise stronger opponents but also warned about their tendency to underperform. Srikkanth particularly emphasized the strength of the opening pair, Jaiswal and Suryavanshi, in winning matches but remained skeptical about the team’s overall championship-winning prospects.
