Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan believes that the young players at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have a valuable chance to develop by observing and learning from the experienced wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni as the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) approaches. Pathan highlighted that while CSK is transitioning towards a younger core, Dhoni’s influence in the team could be pivotal in guiding the next generation of leaders.
Pathan noted Dhoni’s readiness and fitness for the upcoming season, emphasizing that the veteran cricketer seems prepared to make contributions both on and off the field. He mentioned that CSK, known for their successful history in the IPL, is gradually refreshing their squad while maintaining a focus on experienced leadership, with emerging talents like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dewald Brevis, and Shivam Dube expected to play significant roles.
Expressing excitement about the young CSK side’s potential, Pathan mentioned the importance of learning from Dhoni’s experience for players like Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is also a young captain. He highlighted the shift in CSK’s ideology and the need for the youngsters to benefit from Dhoni’s mentorship to progress alongside him.
Shifting focus to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Pathan discussed challenges surrounding the availability of fast-bowling resources for the franchise ahead of the season. He suggested that squad balance and injury concerns, especially regarding overseas players and the wicketkeeper slot, could impact selection decisions for KKR.
Pathan also pointed out that KKR’s home venue, Eden Gardens, could provide them with a strategic advantage, especially considering the schedule that allows them to play most early games at home, aiding in better planning and preparation for both players and coaching staff.
