Former Indian Army Chief, General (Retired) M.M. Naravane, stated that Pakistan is not a significant mediator but more of a “courier service” in the ongoing efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran. He emphasized the intertwined nature of national security and economic security, highlighting the importance of self-sufficiency and diversification in global trade to mitigate potential shocks. Gen Naravane stressed the necessity of adaptability in the face of geopolitical uncertainties, emphasizing the importance of aligning decisions with national interests for long-term benefits.
Highlighting the continuous nature of military modernization, Gen Naravane described it as an ongoing process across the Indian Armed Forces, with a focus on acquiring indigenous equipment. He expressed confidence in the improving trajectory of India-Bangladesh relations despite periodic challenges, noting that downturns are often followed by positive developments. Addressing the issue of border fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, he mentioned the long-standing efforts to fence the challenging riverine terrain.
Gen Naravane acknowledged the strategic importance of drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in modern warfare, citing their significant role in recent conflicts worldwide. He emphasized the increased focus of the Indian Armed Forces on procuring drones and highlighted the potential contributions of indigenous companies and MSMEs in drone production.
