Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, on his 54th birthday, expressed immense gratitude for being named the latest inductee into the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame. Ganguly, currently leading the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), becomes the 12th Indian and 10th Indian male cricketer to receive this esteemed recognition.
Ganguly, known for his exceptional ODI performances, achieved 11,363 runs in 311 ODIs with 22 centuries and 132 wickets. In Test cricket, he scored 7,212 runs in 113 matches. Post-retirement, Ganguly served as BCCI President, coached teams in various leagues, and held key roles in cricket administration.
Fondly called the ‘God of the off-side,’ Ganguly took over as Indian captain in 2000 during a challenging period and led the team to several memorable victories. His leadership saw India triumph in the 2002 NatWest Trophy, share the 2002 Champions Trophy, reach the 2003 ODI World Cup final, and secure a historic Test series win in Pakistan in 2004.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to officially announce Ganguly’s induction into the ICC Hall of Fame on July 11. Notable Indian cricketers previously honored in the Hall of Fame include legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni.
