Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has pointed out Abhishek Sharma’s challenges facing off-spinners in the current T20 World Cup. Sharma’s shot selection has led to his early dismissals, with three consecutive ducks in the tournament. As India gears up to face South Africa, Sharma’s performance will be closely watched at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Pathan highlighted that Sharma has been falling to off-spinners, notably against Pakistan and the Netherlands. The issue lies in Sharma’s shot choices, swinging his bat from a high angle and attempting cross-wicket shots. Pathan emphasized the need for Sharma to adjust his approach to tackle such deliveries effectively.
Praising Ishan Kishan’s exceptional form, Pathan described it as the peak of his career. Kishan has excelled on the leg side, targeting square-leg and fine-leg efficiently. However, Pathan noted that Kishan might face a different test against South Africa, urging him to adapt to off-side deliveries and expand his range of shots strategically.
Kishan has emerged as India’s standout performer in the tournament, amassing 176 runs in four matches at a remarkable strike rate of 202.29, including two half-centuries.
