Former Indian all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham has announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket at the age of 37. He made this decision public during a special press conference at the KSCA Media Lounge, which was attended by officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Gowtham had a brief stint in international cricket, playing one ODI for India against Sri Lanka on July 23, 2021, where he took a wicket by dismissing Minod Bhanuka. He gained recognition in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was the most expensive uncapped Indian player at the IPL 2021 auction, signing with the Chennai Super Kings for INR 9.25 crore. However, this record was later surpassed by other players in subsequent auctions.
Throughout his IPL career, Gowtham played for various teams including Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants. His final IPL appearance was in May 2024 for Lucknow Super Giants against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In his IPL career, Gowtham scored 247 runs and took 21 wickets in 36 matches. He also had successful stints in domestic cricket, with 737 runs and 116 wickets in first-class games, 400 runs and 51 wickets in List A matches, and 454 runs and 32 wickets in T20 cricket.
One of the standout moments of Gowtham’s career was during the 2019 Karnataka Premier League when he played for Bellary Tuskers. In a remarkable performance, he scored 134 runs off 56 balls, including a 39-ball century, and also took 8 wickets for 15 runs in the same match.
Gowtham also represented India A and came close to earning more international caps in different formats. He was known for his resilience and competitive spirit, establishing himself as a cricketer who consistently performed well against tough opponents.
