Former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi has recommended that the IPL Governing Council appoint top-notch match officials to ensure consistent decision-making during matches. This suggestion comes in light of a recent controversial decision where Kolkata Knight Riders player Angkrish Raghuvanshi was given out for ‘obstructing the field’ against Lucknow Super Giants.
Raghuvanshi’s dismissal sparked debate as he slipped and unintentionally obstructed the ball while trying to reach the crease. Many argued that there was no deliberate intent on his part to interfere with the play. Lalit Modi emphasized the importance of maintaining high officiating standards in the IPL, considering its status as the most valuable cricket league globally.
Expressing disappointment over the alleged shift towards cost-saving measures, Modi highlighted the significance of having top global umpires officiate IPL matches. He stressed the need for upholding professionalism to safeguard the league’s credibility and enhance the overall fan experience. Modi urged the BCCI to prioritize the game’s integrity and avoid compromising on quality for financial reasons.
