Former IPS officer Amitabh Kumar Das was detained by Patna Police for allegedly spreading misleading information and using abusive language on social media related to the suspicious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna. The police action was based on Case No. 44/26 registered at Chitragupt Nagar police station. The case revolves around the death of a student preparing for NEET at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel, which had garnered significant public attention and discussions.

Amitabh Kumar Das was accused of repeatedly sharing objectionable and abusive content on social media platforms concerning the sensitive case. The police claimed that his posts contained unverified and misleading information that could disrupt public order and interfere with the ongoing investigation. Following a search at Das’s residence in Pataliputra, where digital devices and documents were examined, he was taken into custody for further interrogation.

During his detention, Amitabh Das alleged that the government was targeting him deliberately. He asserted that the search was politically motivated and accused the police of trying to plant incriminating material at his home to falsely implicate him. Police officials emphasized that Das’s social media activities were influencing public opinion on the case and posed a potential threat to law and order. They stressed the seriousness of spreading misinformation during an active investigation and the necessity of taking appropriate legal action.

The suspicious death at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel, where the NEET aspirant was found unconscious and later succumbed to injuries, remains under investigation. Reports from the post-mortem and FSL indicated the possibility of sexual assault. Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors or unverified information related to the case.
