Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai revealed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to launch a public awareness initiative in Karnataka. This campaign aims to address the alleged reversal of increased reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) by the current Congress-led state government. Bommai criticized the government for what he termed as a significant injustice to SC, ST, and OBC communities.
Bommai, after meeting with BJP SC/ST leaders in Bengaluru, accused the state government of neglecting the interests of marginalized communities. He highlighted the involvement of key BJP leaders like B.Y. Vijayendra, R. Ashoka, Govind Karjol, and N. Ravikumar in raising public awareness on this issue. The former CM also criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for allegedly going against the communities that had previously supported him politically.
The discussion also touched upon the topic of internal reservation within SC and ST communities. Bommai referenced a Supreme Court ruling granting states the authority to implement internal reservation. He pointed out that states like Telangana and Haryana had already taken steps in this direction. Bommai further accused the Congress government in Karnataka of lacking interest in implementing internal reservation policies.
