Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has requested the Centre to permit NEET PG‑2026 candidates to select their preferred examination cities instead of just states during the application process.
In a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Singh highlighted that this year, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) altered the exam center selection procedure, limiting candidates to choosing only three preferred states, unlike previous years where they could pick specific cities.
Singh emphasized concerns raised by numerous students and parents regarding the new system potentially resulting in exam centers being allocated far from their residences, leading to increased travel, accommodation costs, and mental stress, particularly impacting students from economically weaker backgrounds and rural areas.
The senior Congress leader stressed that competitive exams should focus on assessing students’ merit rather than subjecting them to unnecessary financial and mental pressure due to administrative decisions. Singh urged the Education Minister to instruct NBEMS to reinstate the option for candidates to choose their preferred cities for NEET PG‑2026 exam centers, aiming to alleviate the burden on candidates and create a conducive exam environment.
