India’s former G20 Sherpa and ex-NITI Aayog CEO, Amitabh Kant, highlighted the importance of enhancing relations between India and the United States. Kant emphasized the mutual benefits that could arise from this partnership, given the US’s significant role as a key trading and investment ally, alongside India’s emergence as a major global economic power.
Kant underscored the value of maintaining strong ties with the US, a crucial economic partner for India. Stressing the potential advantages of deepening the relationship, he pointed out that the US contributes around 26% of the global GDP and nearly half of the world’s market capitalization, while also leading in various cutting-edge technologies.
According to Kant, India stands to gain substantially from increased interaction with the American market. He noted the transformative impact such engagement could have on India’s growth trajectory. Additionally, Kant urged the US to acknowledge India’s rising significance on the global platform, emphasizing the country’s transition towards becoming a $30 trillion economy from its current $4 trillion status, in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Highlighting India’s democratic values and economic reforms, Kant portrayed the nation as a vibrant democracy that has undergone significant economic changes in recent times. His comments follow indications from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about potential plans for President Donald Trump to visit India early next year, with Rubio himself expected to visit India in preparation for the proposed trip.
