Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje expressed their support for Prime Minister Modi’s recent appeal for restrained consumption and austerity measures. Deve Gowda highlighted the impact of global conflicts on India’s resources, emphasizing the importance of using them judiciously. He mentioned the economic uncertainties arising from international tensions, particularly in West Asia, and endorsed Modi’s advice for careful resource utilization.
Karandlaje echoed Deve Gowda’s sentiments, noting Modi’s consistent advocacy for responsible consumption and healthy living. She pointed out India’s heavy reliance on imported edible oils and petroleum products, stressing the need to reduce consumption to lower foreign exchange expenditure. Emphasizing the significance of prudent resource usage in achieving self-reliance, Karandlaje highlighted the potential benefits for India’s foreign exchange reserves through restrained consumption of petroleum products.
The Union Minister further underlined the role of petroleum products in transportation and fertiliser production, advocating for their moderated usage to conserve foreign exchange reserves. She reiterated Modi’s emphasis on these measures for both economic and health benefits, citing the Prime Minister’s concerns for the country’s well-being and foreign exchange reserves. Karandlaje also cautioned against blindly investing in gold amid escalating prices, aligning with Modi’s call to prioritize essential sectors over luxury purchases.
