A former Postal Assistant in Bhopal has been handed a five-year Rigorous Imprisonment for his involvement in a Rs 13.85 lakh fraud case. The accused, Rajnish Tiwari, who worked at the Lashkar Head Post Office in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, was also fined Rs 14,000 by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court.
The case dates back to April 20, 2022, when the Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Gwalior, filed a complaint. It alleged that Tiwari, while serving as a Postal Assistant, committed cheating and breach of trust by diverting funds amounting to Rs 13,85,496 in 2020.
Tiwari manipulated electronic records of 17 Recurring Deposit (RD) accounts of customers at the Post Office using the Finacle Internet Module. He then transferred the funds to unauthorized regular/savings accounts, including his own, and withdrew the money using stolen ATM cards from the Lashkar Head Post Office.
The accused was found guilty after an investigation and subsequently sentenced for his actions.
