Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s wife, Chennamma, aged 85, passed away at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru on Saturday after battling severe respiratory complications. She suffered a heart attack around 4 p.m., with the family yet to decide on the final rites venue. The family is considering conducting the funeral in Hassan, Deve Gowda’s home district.
BJP Karnataka State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra expressed deep sorrow over Chennamma’s demise, highlighting her pivotal role in supporting Deve Gowda’s political journey. He offered prayers for her soul and extended heartfelt sympathies to the grieving family. A team of specialist doctors closely monitored Chennamma’s condition, with her health deteriorating suddenly on Thursday.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy canceled his scheduled programs to be with his ailing mother, while his brother and sister-in-law remained by her side. Chennamma had been under constant observation by specialists at the hospital for the past three days. Deve Gowda, along with his sons, rushed to the hospital upon her health crisis, recalling her miraculous recovery from a past health scare.
