Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and later Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda in New Delhi amidst reports of his dissatisfaction with the appointment of Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon and rumors of his exit from the party. Singh, in a social media post, mentioned discussing various Punjab-related issues with Amit Shah.
The BJP recently appointed Kewal Singh Dhillon as the new state President for Punjab, replacing Sunil Jakhar, ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Amarinder Singh expressed his lack of consultation by the party high command regarding Dhillon’s appointment on the same day.
Responding to Amarinder Singh’s distancing from Dhillon’s appointment, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann noted the apparent rift between the two leaders, stating that Dhillon was previously considered close to Singh. Mann emphasized that Singh had no involvement in the decision made by the BJP leadership.
State BJP President Dhillon, after meeting party President Nitin Nabin in New Delhi, expressed gratitude for the leadership role in Punjab and pledged to work closely with party members and state leaders.
