Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, on International Workers’ Day, voiced serious worries about the plight of workers in India, especially in Rajasthan. He highlighted the low wages and poor conditions faced by laborers, emphasizing the need for better treatment and fair pay.
Gehlot also drew attention to recent labor unrest in Noida, labeling it a cautionary signal for authorities and employers. He stressed the legal and ethical obligation to safeguard workers’ well-being, expressing deep unease about the national scenario.
In his remarks, Gehlot criticized Rajasthan’s low wage rates, urging the current Chief Minister to raise wages for the betterment and dignity of workers. He lamented the lack of implementation of laws for gig workers, which he claimed had garnered global recognition but now seemed neglected.
The former CM raised concerns about silicosis, a lung disease prevalent among mine workers, calling for strict safety measures in mining areas. Gehlot questioned why workers were still contracting the disease and highlighted the need for protective gear and adherence to safety protocols.
Gehlot also addressed the issue of caste census reports, suggesting a wait for official clarity post-May 4 before making conclusions. Regarding West Bengal’s exit polls, he dismissed their reliability, stating that they hold little credibility and are often inaccurate.
