Former Spain international defender Cesar Azpilicueta, currently playing for Sevilla FC, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. Azpilicueta, who represented Spain 44 times, shared the news on social media, stating that the 2025-26 season marked the end of his professional career.
Starting his journey in Pamplona, Azpilicueta expressed gratitude for the experiences and friendships gained throughout his career. With over 800 matches under his belt, he played for clubs like Osasuna, Olympique de Marseille, Chelsea, Atlético Madrid, and Sevilla FC, as well as the Spain national team.
Azpilicueta’s illustrious career includes multiple accolades such as league titles, domestic cups, UEFA Europa League victories, and a FIFA Club World Cup. A pivotal moment was in 2021 when he captained Chelsea to a UEFA Champions League triumph over Manchester City in Porto.
