The Sabarimala gold theft case investigation saw a significant development as former Travancore Devaswom Board member K.P. Sankaradas was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. This arrest marks the 13th in the case, with Superintendent of Police S.P. Sashidharan leading the arrest procedures at the hospital.
Sankaradas, who had been receiving treatment in the ICU, had the arrest formalities completed by a magistrate at the hospital due to his medical condition. The remand report will soon be presented before the Kollam court, while Sankaradas will remain under hospital care.
The delay in Sankaradas’ arrest had drawn criticism, especially after the Kerala High Court’s reprimand towards the SIT. The court’s impending verdict on a CBI probe plea filed by state BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar adds further complexity to the situation, with political implications emerging as CPI(M) and CPI leaders are already in custody.
