Kailash Mishra, a former Trinamool Congress candidate for the Bally Assembly constituency in West Bengal’s Howrah, has been apprehended by the West Bengal Police in Madhubani, Bihar. Mishra, who ran for the Bally seat and is closely linked to Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee, faced multiple criminal charges during the 2021 Assembly elections in West Bengal. These charges, including assault, intimidation, and extortion, were filed against him in various police stations in Bally, Howrah, and Liluah.
A team from the West Bengal Police took action based on these cases and arrested Mishra in Madhubani, where he is from. Known to be an associate of Abhishek Banerjee, Mishra will be presented before the appropriate court by the West Bengal Police after completing the required legal procedures. In a separate incident, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently detained a Trinamool Congress Zilla Parishad official in East Midnapore district, West Bengal, in connection with rioting during elections for cooperative bank office-bearer positions.
The individual in custody, Samsul Islam, held the position of Trinamool Congress office-bearer (health unit) in East Midnapore Zilla Parishad. He was arrested along with his accomplices for involvement in rioting during the cooperative bank office-bearer elections. Additionally, Swarup Biswas, the brother of former West Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas, was arrested by Kolkata Police for alleged extortion activities related to technicians in the Bengali film industry. This arrest was made in connection with a vandalism incident at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake during Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour on December 13 last year.
