Former Trinamool Congress councillor Anjan Das and his associate Bhola Sarkar were arrested for allegedly kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach, threatening her life, and causing her harm. The victim, Vijaya Ghosh, claimed that the assault occurred in 2020 due to political differences as she supported the BJP. She stated that the accused not only physically attacked her but also threatened her family members.
Ghosh mentioned that the traumatic incident led to severe mental distress for her entire family, resulting in her father-in-law’s attempted suicide. Recently, she filed a formal complaint at Parnasree Police Station, leading to the arrests of Das and Sarkar. The police initiated an investigation based on her complaint and took action against the accused individuals.
After the arrests, tension rose as Das was taken to Vidyasagar Hospital for a medical check-up. Local residents, along with BJP supporters, gathered outside the hospital and protested, chanting slogans. However, the situation was swiftly controlled by the Parnasree Police Station personnel, preventing any escalation of the conflict.
The victim demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. This arrest adds to a series of similar cases involving former Trinamool councillors in Kolkata, who have faced charges like extortion, intimidation, and molestation since the change in government. The arrests reflect a broader trend of legal actions against Trinamool Congress members across the state.
